Poker Lessons

Great, I have a Straight, or at least I thought I did...
This information may help you not make the mistake of thinking you caught a straight when in fact you did not...it has happen to many players.

In a major TV event, final two players ($500,000.00 difference between 1st and 2nd place). One Player "thought" he had straight called and found to his embarrassment he did not!

There may be times when your opponent calls out "I've got a straight". You then muck 2 pair, only to find out they did not have straight. First, never muck your hand until you have verifed you are beat, at least turn your cards face up.

CAN YOU FIND THE STRAIGHT IN THE CARDS BELOW? YOU HAVE 5 SECONDS!

K Q 6 4 A 3 8 9 J A 7 A 2 Q 4 9 K 3 2 8 6 8 Q J 2 7

Did you Find a Straight? Here's a tip: No 5, No 10, No Straight

When you are "looking" to verify a straight don't look to find 5 cards in sequence! Look ONLY for a 5 or 10!

If you can't find either then there is NO STRAIGHT!

Texas Hold'em Small Pairs

Small pairs 22-77 can cost you a lot of money if played incorrectly.

Knowing some simple data will help you understand why small pair should be played with caution, especially in early position.

DATA: Small Pairs 22-77. Appx 85% of the time you will NOT flop a set AND you will be OVERCARDED on the flop (all cards higher than your pair). Play small pair as cheaply as possible, usually not good idea to call a raise due to the data listed above.

You are hoping to flop a set - get in cheap - if you miss the flop be ready to fold to a bet.

Pot Odds

How to determine correct pot odds!

You need know the "outs" you have to catch your drawing card(s). If you need an eight (8) to make a straight you have 4 "outs". Now take the outs and divide that number in 47 (since you have 47 unseen cards after the flop". (without getting to technical you can also use 45 as your "standard" rather than 47)

4/47 = Appx 12, reduce that number by 1 = 11.
That is "card odds", 11-1 odds against you catching an 8 on the next card (one card to come, the turn OR the river).

If you have an inside straight draw and two cards will make your straight you have 8 outs.
8/47 = Appx 6, reduce that number by 1 = 5. 5-1 odds of not catching any of your two cards on the turn OR river (one card to come).

Example of Flush Draw!

Called "4 flush". You have Kc 9c: Flop: 7c Ac 3d
You have flopped a "4 flush draw", 9 clubs remain = 9 outs.

9/47 = Appx 5, reduce by 1 = 4-1 odds against catching club on turn.

Now take the odds (4) and multiply by opponent's wager, assume $10.00
4 x $10 = $40.00.
The total pot must have more than $40.00 in order for you to have "correct pot odds" to call.

If pot is $40.00 and opponent bets $10.00 the TOTAL POT is $50.00, not $40.00. Some players, in counting the pot total, forget to add the opponent's wager to the exsisting pot.

*If the amount in the pot is equal to or greater than the pot odds CALL
*If the amount in the pot is less than the amount of the pot odds FOLD

Ace in the Hand
Great News, you have an ACE in you hand! The problem is that you have a weak kicker, A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 are the weakest kickers.

If you play a weak ace out of position and an Ace comes on the flop you are in trouble and not in charge of this hand.

Knowing the approximate percentage of when one of your opponents also has an Ace when you hold an Ace can give you more information on how best to play your hand.

I will teach you how to memorize the appx % of another holding in Ace based on the number of players at the table 2 - 10. It will only take about 3 minutes!

Players % Another player does NOT have Ace in hand when you have Ace:

2 87%
3 77%
4 67%
5 57%
6 50%
7 45%
8 35%
9 30%
10 25%

First memorize the Top one (2 players) 87%, the Middle (6 players) 50%, the Bottom (10 players) 25%

Good, now start at the top and memorize the % down to 50% ...NOTICE THE "PATTERN"
87 77 67 57...50
Take a few seconds and memorize the sequence: 87 77 67 77...50

Now start at 50% and memorize down to 25%...50 45 35 "30" 25
The only number not in a pattern is 30%.
Again, 50 45 35 30 25

Now start at the top: 87 77 67 57 50... 45 35 30 25
Take a minute of two and you will be one of the very few players who can recall these % when they might need them...

You have an Ace, there are 7 players. What is the appx percent that another does NOT have an Ace in their hand? 87 77 67 57 50 45%...45% is the answer, just start at the top and go down in sequence for the number of players at the table.

BlackJack Lessons
BlackJack Tip:
Did you know that Blackjack is listed as one of the worst games to play in the casino IF you are not playing perfect "Basic Strategy"...which 95% of blackjack players do not...that is why there are so many blackjack tables...casino benefits from poor play strategy by players.

The reason the basic strategy is so difficult to master (270 perfect decisions) is that the format for basic strategy for the past 50 years has been in a "row/chart format".

I developed a memory method for that chart format, called: Blackjack "Magic". Players can memoraize all 270 blackjack decisions in about two hours. I have been conducting blackjack seminars for past 20 years using this method...my students are playing PERFECT BLACKJACK.

#1. DOUBLE DOWN WITH PLAYER TOTAL OF 9? Double down with 9 when the dealer shows a; 3-4-5-6.
MEMORY: 3 + 6 = 9
Double Down with 9 with dealer's 3 - 6 (3 thru 6)
3 + 6 = 9
Repeat that a few times and you will be able to recall when to double down with 9 when you are at the table.

#2. DOUBLE DOWN WITH PLAYER'S: 10
The "chart" lists to double down with dealer's 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9
MEMORY: ALWAYS EXCEPT 10 or Ace
Repeat that a few times and you will "always" know when to double down with 10.

#3 DOUBLE DOWN WITH PLAYER's 11 The basic strategy charts list to double down with dealer's 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10.
To many numbers...use the memory aid below, very easy to memorize.

MEMORY: ALWAYS EXCEPT ACE. Repeat that a few times and you will quickly recall when to double down with 11.

BlackJack Decisions:
1. Do not play single deck game if the blackjack payout is 6 to 5
2. Never take Insurance or Even Money (unless card counting)
3. Never split 55 or 1010
4. Alwyas split AA 88
5. Many players make mistake with 12 - Hit, unless dealer has 4-5-6 up card
Craps Lessons:
Craps Best Bets
Did you know that 6 of the top 10 Best Bets in the casino
are found on the craps table?

Remember craps is always a negative expectation game,
you will never have a positive advantage NO MATTER WHAT SYSTEM YOU PLAY!.

#1. BEST CRAPS BETS!

1. Pass Line
2. Odds Bet
3. Don't Pass Line
4. Lay Odds Bet (for Don't Pass bettors)
5. Place Bet on 6
6. Place Bet on 8

The "Buy Bet" on the 4 or 10 is added to this list as one of the best craps bet IF the "Vig" (commission} 5% that the casino charges to make a buy bet IS PAID ONLY AFTER YOUR WIN, rather than when you make the bet.

Ask the dealer before you make the Buy Bet when the "Vig" is paid.

Minium bet for "buy" bets $20.00 - you pay $1.00 commission.

Better to make a $25.00 bet. The dealer does not have quarters!
You will only be charged the $1.00 "vig", commission for your $25.00 wager. Better value!

One of my best selling publications is: Craps Made Simple
Perfect for the novice.

Craps Tips
1. Do not make Place Bets on: 4-5-9-10
2. Do make Place Bets on: 6 & 8
3. Make Pass Line/Come bets with Double Odds
4. No "center table" bets: Hard Ways - 11 - Craps - Etc.
5. Make "Buy Bets" on 4/10 ONLY IF "Vig" is paid AFTER you win.
(Ask dealer about the "Vig" payment)
Try This!!
NEVER stand in the long coffee shop or buffett lines at a casino! Ask any floor person for a "Line Pass".
You will go to VIP or at front of line! If you don't use it give it to a family with children or an older person.
